Returning to Boise in 2001, the Mann family’s voyage was far from over. Six years later, they answered a new call, as Jeff’s father assumed the role of a mission president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durban, South Africa. This marked yet another chapter in Jeff’s journey of adaptability and growth, as one of two black Americans in a boy’s school of white, Indian, and black (Zulu) students.
From Football Fields to Rugby Pitches
Despite initially embracing football during his middle school years in Boise, on moving to South Africa he quickly found himself immersed in a new sporting passion. In a delightful twist of fate, he was introduced to rugby, a sport embraced wholeheartedly in his new surroundings. From football fields to rugby pitches, Jeff’s transition was seamless, culminating in his first try during his debut rugby match – a milestone that ignited his lifelong passion for the sport.
